My Divergent Life

Welcome! I am an Afro-Caribbean artist operating out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Select any image below to see a collection of my visual art. My painting style is mostly colorful abstract expressionism with a focus on self-growth and neurodivergence. My photography focuses on lighting and study of textures and lines.

I often got labelled as a gifted underachiever in school while growing up. My art is therefore perfectly imperfect as I fight against the negative self-talk that comes with trying to be a perfectionist. Painting is a form of therapy for me and therefore I decidedly try to accept my mistakes rather than cover them. Some of my pieces have a 'Where's Waldo?" component where I deviate once from a pattern. But I mostly just free-flow and let my mistakes stay as is and teach myself to appreciate the beauty that still exists there.

3-D Art

I love painting found and rescued objects. It allows me to emphasize the features of a piece I like via contrasting colors and reimagine their representations while often incorporating elements of nature.

Neurodiversity

I began this series on neurodivergence in January 2023 and tapped into the educator nature at my core. When trying to understand the painful nature of my life experiences, my research turned to neurodivergence. I’m a visual learner who has always enjoyed translating science to a wide audience through colorful graphics and videos. I love the conversations that come from this form of outreach.
Having conversations about what I was learning about myself and my neurological differences led me to a community I didn’t realize I was lacking. Those conversations ultimately inspired me to create artwork translating the academic jargon describing the differences in mental and sensory processing that people on the spectrum experience. I hope I was able to communicate how these complex concepts impact my daily life and community.

Expressionist Paintings

I struggle with words when anxious or tired and generally find it easier to process my thoughts and emotions through visual art. Every shape and color choice has some significant representational meaning. I tend to use contrasting colors to emphasize the differences between the tangible, immutable elements of being and the fluidity of thoughts and emotions. I use darker colors to represent physical space, obstacles, or beings while the brighter colors represent feelings, inner thoughts, and auras. In these paintings, there are themes of queer love, love of nature and animals, self-growth, and Caribbean and Louisiana culture.

Pet Potraits

I have worked in pet care in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for over 10 years and have met a multitude of adorable pets with so many different personalities. Here are some of my paintings of pets who have passed and my favorite photographs from my house sitting and dog boarding adventures.

I studied digital photography in college and love paying attention to textures and lighting.

Event and Portrait Photography

The portraits are those I took as a teenager when I was first branching out from nature photography. The event photos are from college and my former work with My House Events in New Orleans, LA managing catering for mostly weddings.
